Female Body Building
Many females are unhappy with the shape of their bodies,
but are afraid to try body building because they think it
will make them bulky and masculine. The truth is that fat
takes up five times as much space as muscle, and body composition
determines to a large extent how we look. If you replace fat
on your hips or thighs with the same weight in lean muscle,
they will get smaller. The number of females training with
free weights is on the increase in a huge way, and it is because
body building can help to completely transform the shape of
your body, and actually make you less bulky and more feminine
than ever before.
As an added bonus, increasing your lean muscle mass will
also increase your metabolism, allowing you to burn calories
much faster, so that you will be less likely to put on weight
as fat in the future. Don not make the mistake either of thinking
that you should train less intensively than a man for fear
of growing huge hulking biceps like those guys in the gym.
The fact is that men build bigger muscles because of their
vastly higher levels of testosterone, which promotes bigger,
stronger muscle tissue synthesis.
Unless you are planning to take steroids or growth hormones
anytime soon, you will not end up looking like that no matter
how hard you train. And in fact if you do not train hard and
push your muscles to the limit, you will never build the lean
muscle tissue that you need to transform your body shape. And
do not shun the carbohydrates, a body building nutrition programme
is not the same as a weight-loss diet. Your body needs those
carbs to see you through the intensive workouts, and to fuel
the recovery period afterwards. It needs them to support the
building of new muscle tissue, and if you do not supply them
as part of your diet, not only will your metabolism decrease,
but the protein you consume may be stored as fat instead of
converted to lean muscle mass. A double loss!
It may be that as the result of following a proper body
building nutrition programme, you will gain a little bodyfat
as well as muscle to begin with, but this will soon melt away
and stay away as your base metabolism accelerates due to your
new muscle tissue.
If you want to get fit and healthy, or stay fit and healthy,
training with weights is a great option. it will almost certainly
make you smaller, not bigger. You will also feel generally
fitter and healthier, bloody flow to the brain increases,
mental function improves... there are so many positive aspects
to embarking on a good weight training programme that it is
hard to think of an excuse really not to do it.
Female body building has also existed as a professional
sport since 1980, when the first Miss Olympia contest was
held for professional female body builders. This is a quite
different animal to a regular weight training regime though,
involving the same extreme practices as the men’s competitions,
including carb-loading and the infamous pro tan. There is
come controversy surrounding the sport, since female body
builders make a lot less money than the men. Standards of
judging are also more specifically based on arbitrary aesthetic
factors, and are decided by men.
